How do you know if you are actually pregnant? The signs vary in so many ways. Plus, they tend to be so generic that they can indicate other bodily conditions as well. Sometimes, it’s easier to go to your OB Gyn and have yourself checked.
Whether you are truly pregnant lies in the signs and symptoms you experience. In some cases, your body will literally be screaming the signs of your current conception. While in other instances, the signs tend to be too subtle for you to make that connection.
Nevertheless, it is still important to know which signs and symptoms point toward pregnancy. If these occur more often (or even at the same time), then it is possible that you are pregnant. Here are some of the signs.
Darker, Protruding Areolas
During pregnancy, women’s breasts enlarge. This is caused by the interplay of hormones involved in the lactation process, which is involved in the production of milk. This enlargement is quite noticeable especially in the areolas, the areas that surround your nipples. For pregnant women, expect darker colored and protruding areolas, another change that involves hormones.
Elevated Basal Body Temperature and Irregular Bowel Movement
It is important to know you basal body temperature, or the lowest that your healthy body can register while at rest. When irregular elevations occur more frequently, this can be seen as a sign. Bowel movement is also affected when you are pregnant. You may feel constipated as a result of the different hormonal changes that your body is having due your pregnancy.
These are very subtle, general signs and can be quite misleading. As isolated incidents, they are not very reliable indications of pregnancy. But if these happen more regularly than usual, then they could be signs.
Occurring mostly during the sixth week of your pregnancy, this is a constant feeling of nausea and vomiting that you get in the morning. Some doctors perceive this as a good sign, as it means your baby is right on track and is bound to be healthy.
Be sure to stay adequately hydrated. Constant vomiting can drain you of fluids and electrolytes, leading to serious conditions if you don’t take care of yourself.
This is among the most reliable indications of pregnancy. Although irregular menstruation has been linked to other factors like stress or too much exercise, it is still a viable sign. Figure out if there are any other reasons for your irregular menstruation. If there is none, then it is very possible that you are pregnant.
The signs of pregnancy can be highly variable from person to person. If you are unsure, a pregnancy test can be very helpful. It may also be a good time to make an appointment with your OB Gyn.
